YOUR PASSPORT TO OVERSEAS DRIVING
- AN International Driving Permit is a special driving license that
allows motorist to drive vehicles in other countries. If you have
an international driving permit, this proves that you have a
valid driving licence issued by a relevant authority in your
home country. If you are traveling abroad and wish to drive in
another country, you will very likely require an international
driving permit. AAM, Malaysia’s leading motoring organisation,
can help you by issuing an IDP, if you are planning to drive
while visiting another country.
- Only be issued to person over 18 years old
- Presenting AAM membership card
- Application Form (obtainable at below)
- A valid Malaysia Driving Licence
- Your driving licence must be valid throughout the
validity of the IDP. If less, you must renew your driving
licence first before you apply for the IDP
- ‘P’ licence holders are NOT ELIGIBLE to apply
- Photocopies of your NRIC and Malaysian Driving Licence.
- 2 passport-sized photographs
- IDP fee of RM150.00
- An IDP can only be issued for a maximum of one year.
No extension is allowed
- It is important to check the details of your particulars
printed on the International Driving Permit. Errors,
omissions or changes can only be rectified by the
Issuing Association (AAM)
- Be reminded that you must have an IDP if you want to drive while
you visit another country because:
- Almost all car rental companies insist on you producing
your IDP before you can rent a vehicle
- Matters can become complicated if you are involved
in an accident. You not be eligible for insurance claims
- Your IDP can be used as an alternative identification
document. When renting a car or when driving in a
foreign country where English is not commonly
spoken, drivers may find themselves handicapped by language barriers. The IDP
contains translations of terms used in various international
languages that would enable drivers to communicate with
car rental
companies
