Review -TOYOTA RUSH - MORE MASCULINE IN DEMEANOR |
| |
|
| |
The Toyota Rush is developed to be a
tough and casual sport utility wagon and
is meant to move with a convenience of a
compact hatchback.
If you are looking for a small MPV and
are a Toyota fan, then the new Toyota
Rush can be your choice.
Outstanding fuel efficiency has been
achieved with improved aerodynamic
properties. Of note are the larger tyres
and much bigger brakes, discs at the front
and larger drums at the rear. The Rush
has a turning radius of 4.9 metres making
driving along narrow streets
and parking with much ease.
On the exterior, the Rush
certainly looks like a 4WD
vehicle than a MPV but in
reality it is only a 2WD. The
Rush rides on 16” inch alloy
wheels with 215/65R16 tyres.
In Malaysia, Toyota
seems to be missing a model
in the small monocoque SUV
segment, an area currently
dominated by models such as the Honda CR-V and the Ford Escape.
One model that might be able to
fit that area but not exactly because of
engine size is the Toyota Rush.
While we might have the Rush
come in as a Perodua to replace the
Kembara, let’s not discount the fact
that it could possibly come in as a
Perodua-assembled Toyota instead (as
the Avanza is now).
Now many will argue that the
Rush is too compact to be a Toyota,
but there is actually a long wheelbase version of the Toyota Rush.
The engine still remains as a Daihatsu-based 1.5 liter VVT-i
though, the same 3SZ-VE unit as the one currently in the Toyota
Avanza 1.5 making 109 PS at 6,000rpm and 141Nm of torque at
4,400rpm.
Looking better than the Avanza, the Rush is more masculine
in demeanor. It rides a little higher with seats.
Three variants of the Rush are available locally, priced from
RM85,888 to RM94,888 (on-the-road without insurance), in both
manual and automatic transmissions.
Despite a compact body, the Rush is generously spacious
with a high-efficiency layout offering a cabin space that
accommodates four adults in relaxed comfort and a roomy, 380-
liter cargo space.
Decked with a beige interior colour scheme, the Rush has a
cabin length of 2,440mm and width of 1,385mm with a threerow
seating arrangement.
Its 2-3-2 seating arrangment, allows the third row to be fold
forward against the back of the second row seats to make way
for more storage area.
Storage areas include a glovebox, a coin box, front center
storage area below the air conditioning controls, a centre console
built into the arm rest, a sunglasses holder, door trim pockets on
all doors, seat back pockets, and a third row storage on each side
of the car.
The Rush is also equipped with a second row air conditioning
vents mounted on the ceiling, which also serves to cool the third
row.
The minimal difference in height between the floor and the
scuff plates by the front doors, along with rear doors that open
in three-stages to a maximum of 77 degrees, provide excellent
overall ease of entry and exit.
The Rush comes in a choice of
four colours – the young and
charismatic Blue
Metallic, Silver
Mica Metallic,
Champagne
Mica Metallic
and Black
Mica. |
