Issuance of International Documents

International Driving Permit (IDP)
To drive overseas only. This Permit can be obtained immediately by presenting:

1. AAM Membership Card.
2. Application Form (obtainable at AAM).
3. 2 colour passport size photographs.
4. Current Driving licence must be valid throughout the IDP period.
5. Fee of RM150.00 (cash or cheque only).
6. Valid for 1 year only.
7. ‘P’ license holders are not eligible to apply for IDP. IDP can only be issued to applicants holding a Malaysian driving license, regardless of nationality of the applicant.
8. Service fee will be levied.

International Circulation Permit (ICP)
Temporary Permit to Foreign registered vehicles for tourists wishing to drive in Malaysia for 90 days. Renewal for another 90 days is possible. However, the third renewal can only be obtained from JPJ.

Documents required:

1. AAM Membership Card.
2. Vehicle Registration Card.
3. ‘Carnet de Passage’.
4. Malaysian insurance is required.
5. Declaration and application form fully completed.
6. Each ICP will be valid for 3 months only.
7. AAM documentation fee.

Carnet De Passage
A document which exempts the person from payment of custom duties e.g. if a car enters Malaysia, the person will not have to pay any duty if he or she produces the ‘Carnet’ to the customs authorities.

Application requirement:

1. AAM Membership Card.
2. Vehicle Registration Card.
3. Letter of consent from Finance Company (for hire purchase vehicle).
4. Malaysian insurance.
5. Banker’s Guarantee equivalent to the vehicle value (refundable).
6. AAM documentation fee.
7. Depending on the intended usage the vehicle must be inspected to ensure that all vehicle are the same as the details recorded in the Vehicle Registration Card.
