IF you are planning to drive while visiting another country, please do not leave Malaysia without an International Driving Permit (IDP). As not all countries in the world recognize the Malaysian Driving License, it is safer to drive with an IDP to avoid problems or disputes.
AAM can help you by issuing an International Driving Permit (IDP). The following terms and conditions apply:
- A valid Malaysian Driving License.
- Probationary license holders do not qualify.
- Your driving license must be valid throughout the validity of the IDP. If less, renew your driving license first before you apply for the IDP.
- Photocopies of your NRIC and Malaysian Driving License.
- 2 Passport-sized photographs.
- IDP Fee of RM150.00.
- An IDP can only be issued for a maximum of one year (365 days). No extension is allowed.
- Extension is allowed only if the member's Malaysian Driving License and IDP are valid at the time of renewal.
- Bring along your Malaysian Driving License while visiting another country.
Be reminded that you must have an IDP if you want to drive while you visit another country, let be in an ASEAN member country or a member of the Commonwealth. This is because:
- Almost all car rental companies insist on you producing your IDP before you can rent a vehicle.
- Matters can become complicated if you are involved in an accident and you do not have a valid IDP. You'll not be eligible for insurance claims.
- Besides your passport, your IDP can be used as an alternative identification document.
