The Automobile Association of Malaysia (AAM) and
Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) on 26
November 2007 announced a collaboration that will see
both organizations working together to accelerate the
growth of motor sports in the country to a new level and
higher level.
Under an agreement brokered by the Federation
Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) with the
concurrence of the Federation International de
Motorcyclisme (FIM), AAM as their official
representative, controlling and governing body for
motor sports in the country, will continue to hold and
exercise the sporting powers for automobile sport and
motorcycle sport in Malaysia.
MAM meanwhile, in recognizing AAM as the National
Sporting Authority (ASN) for Malaysia, will now
become one of 22 affiliates under AAM.
In view of its unique position of being in possession of the necessary resources, MAM, in accordance with the
rules, regulations and constitution upheld by AAM,
will undertake tasks to meet with the national
objectives of developing motor sports at the grassroots
level.
As an affiliate of AAM, MAM, will now be
authorised to issue on behalf of AAM, event permits
for national competition and national competition
licenses to MAM competitors, clubs and other
affiliates. AAM will continue to issue national,
international competition licence and national event
permits to all its affiliates and competitors.
“This collaboration underlines a strong commitment
by both organizations and the agreement was
mutually reached in the best interest of developing
motor sports in Malaysia and with the objective of
bringing the sport to a new and higher level,” said
AAM Chairman Tunku Mudzaffar Tunku Mustapha.
